Strong Tie free essay sample

Tie Ltd. a family-claimed fabricating instrument maker has figured out how to keep up stable deals numbers all through late years even while the Housing market in general was on a negative pattern. While this ought to convert into higher overall revenues, the specific inverse pattern has happened. The answer for Strong Tie’s money related issues is an expansion in costs of merchandise and compensation cuts. Starting in 2006 where Strong Tie has Sales of 16. 2 million, the organization kept up solid deals between the 16 and 17. 5 million. Anyway Operating Income diminished by 29% and afterward another 75% the next year. Two primary elements prompted this pattern: COGS and Depreciation. Subsequent to examining the manner in which Strong Tie has dealt with their merchandise. Their Raw Material Turnover was near standard with benchmark numbers at 27 days which implies they have been changing over the crude materials into completed merchandise on outstanding planning. The days in Work in Progress was additionally advancing at a solid rate going from 4. We will compose a custom exposition test on Solid Tie or then again any comparable subject explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page 5 days in 2006 to about 1 day in 2008. As it were, they had the option to complete products at quicker rates. With these two solid rates, there ought to have been expanding benefits, anyway one variable was preventing it from occurring; Days in Finished Goods. Solid Tie’s most productive year was 2006 where days in completed merchandise was 45 which was near comparable to the benchmark of 51. Be that as it may, by 2008, Strong Tie had completed products taking off the racks by 26 days. In the event that clients are purchasing the items this quick, the costs of these products are too low which has brought about a significant loss of benefit. Hence the principal proposal is increment costs generously. Deterioration then again was required to happen yet the expense almost multiplied in 2006 from 396k to 720k in 2008 in all probability from a significant breakdown of gear and fix costs. Devaluation expenses may likewise have gotten from Strong Tie contributing on new computerized feeders and bundling hardware. So while the monetary record shows expanding paces of devaluation and selling costs, anticipate that those expenses should bring down by and by. This venture additionally can possibly accelerate the rate at which crude materials are changed over into completed merchandise. With increasingly completed merchandise to sell at more significant expenses, Operating Income will see a developing pattern. Another reason for worry in Strong Tie is the additional profits that are being paid alongside the Salary rewards. Leading the 1 million dollar reward to the three girls compares to about 350k per little girl. That kind of pay isn't legitimate to three representatives and is adversely influencing the held profit to the business. The 500k being paid each year to somebody that has no relationship to the business at all is likewise a misuse of potential increases. Two proposals here would support held income fundamentally. Leading the pay of the three girls should be essentially brought down. It is liked to recruit new representatives to fill that position and get paid sensible wages. Second, it would be in the company’s wellbeing to search out another investor for the 500k in profits being paid each year. Current investor should be supplanted with somebody with vision for the organization that goes to the roundtable gatherings and contributes their contribution to the general objectives of the organization. One theme that can possibly turn into an issue is the financing of the acknowledge understanding for the Bank of Nova Scotia. Financing is ensured just if Strong Tie can keep up an assortment of benchmarks. Initial a present proportion of 1.5 or higher was required. The organization began solid in 2006 with a proportion of 5 however has declined to 3. 13 in its latest year. This diminishing rate isn't excessively undermining anyway on the grounds that the utilization of assets will be all the more effectively utilized with the new gear and programmed apparatus that has been bought. The organization expected to follow a Long-term obligation to Total Capitalization Ratio of 40% or less and has had the option to however again is drawing nearer to that benchmark. The explanation behind that was the hazard that it has taken experiencing a similar interest in new capital. The one region that Strong Tie is as of now battling with in the benchmarks they have to keep up is Cash Flow Coverage. They have to keep up more than 1, however that number dropped to . 57 out of 2008. One reason why this number has dipped under the necessity is a direct result of the expanding cost of deterioration that has been collecting that is being paid for. When the organization raises its costs on the amount they sell their products for will the Cash Flow Coverage return to its prerequisite since Depreciation expenses should as of now be on the way toward bringing down with the new gear. Solid Tie’s interest in robotization at present has the organization tense right now with its total compensation, however in time that speculation will pay off. While the interest for houses in the market went down fundamentally during this period (2006-2008), Strong Tie has kept up stable deals numbers somewhat in light of how low the costs have been. While 2008 was Strong Tie’s most vulnerable year from a salary outlook, loan specialists (especially Bank of Nova Scotia) ought not stress as long as Strong Tie builds the costs of products with the goal that the Cash Flow Coverage proportion comes back to ordinary. While financing may have all the earmarks of being in peril presently, the present capital will hold the spine together of this organization until these progressions are made. At long last the last significant changes required are to the compensations being paid to Johnstone’s three little girls and a potential new investor. When this yearly expense of 1. 5 million is facilitated and with expanded costs to deals products we will see Strong Tie turning out to be beneficial once more.

A Modest Proposal Research Paper Example For Students

A Modest Proposal Research Paper Criticisms in Jonathan Swifts A Modest ProposalA satire is a literary work in which human foolishness and vice are criticized. Satire employs humor and wit to ridicule human institutions or humanity itself, in order that they might be remodeled or improved (Random House).A Modest Proposal, by Jonathan Swift is a prime example of a satire. Throughout the piece it is difficult to know exactly whom and what Swift is criticizing. This is because Swift criticizes three groups of people and uses metaphors to make the satire work. Swift ridicules the English for economically oppressing the Irish, the Irish for being passive and allowing the English to oppress them, and the reader of the piece for representing all the wrong doings in society. Many of the images that Swift paints for the reader are images that he witnessed firsthand while he was in Ireland. He was able to feel what the people were going through and he put that feeling into his work. The main group of people that Jonathan Swif t indicts is the English. Swift blames the English for creating the environment that the Irish are living in. He witnessed the Irish people living in poverty while their absentee landlords were acquiring great wealth. The poor tenants will have something valuable of their own, which by law may be made liable to distress and help to pay their landlords rent, their corn and cattle being already seized, and money a thing unknown (Swift). Swift illustrates how the British politicians were making laws, to govern the Irish, from afar. Rather than directly accusing the English of economically oppressing the Irish, Swift implies it. He uses metaphors to convey his thoughts. The entire and significantly horrible idea of cannibalism is a metaphor that Swift uses. The British felt that the laws that they were passing were good and just laws, when in actuality all they were doing was making the landlords gain more wealth. I grant this food will be somewhat dear, and therefore very proper for Landlords; who, as they have already devoured most of the Parents, seem to have the best Title to the Children (Swift). This is an example of the distancing effect that Swift puts on the metaphor. He distances the reader from the actual feelings that he should be experiencing. The vocabulary that Swift employees, forces the reader to focus on economic opportunities rather than the necessities of the poor. In the same way that Swift felt t he English had been doing all along. Using the word devoured is very powerful and it goes beyond the ordinary language associated with economics. It demands that the reader interpret the text in the manner that Swift has decided he should. The cruelty of the text continues on throughout the quote. This reader is shocked by the violence that is created by the economic situation. It makes the landlords appear as if they are actually devouring their tenants rather than protecting them. By using language Swift is able to go a step further and create double meanings out of the words. For example in the last quote from the proposal, the word dear can be taken two ways. The first meaning, as it appears, a precious thing. The second meaning of the word dear can be taken as a key to the value of money, something the English keep taking from the Irish. By selling the children, economic gains can be made to profit the English and Irish alike. Swift choose his word carefully in order to convey what he witnessed in Ireland. The English were devouring the Irish and sending them into devastating depths of poverty. .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 , .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 .postImageUrl , .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 , .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20:hover , .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20:visited , .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20:active { border:0!important; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20:active , .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20 .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u43ffd0f453d4bb536e1713944924fa20:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Problem Solution EssayThe second party that Swift criticizes is the Irish. By saying that the Irish can sell their children on the market for money implies two things: One that the English have oppressed them beyond a limit of rationality and two that the Irish are letting the English take advantage of them. Swift paints the Irish as a group of pushovers that would sell their children for money rather than stand up for their rights. Swift makes the point that the Irish have been so harmed by the laws that they take more care in their livestock than their families. Swift indicts the Irish when he says that if the children were put to market, men would treat wives with more respect and child would have better care. We should see an honest emulation among the married women, which of them could bring the fattest child to the market. Men would become as fond of their wives during the time of their pregnancy as they are now of their mares in foal, their cows in calf, their sows when they are ready to farrow; nor offer to beat or kick them (as is too frequent a practice) for fear of a miscarriage (Swift). This example shows how the Irish were passively allowing the English to oppress them. By taking more care of their livestock then their families, the Irish played the game that the English wanted them to. If a man were to put more effort into his wife and children than his animals, he would not be able to make enough money to satisfy the government. Swift wanted the people to see what was going on. He wanted them to wake up. Swift was making the point that the Irish did not stand up to the government, thus allowing the English to continue doing what they were doing. The third party that Swift indicts is the reader. As the piece begins the reader will soon become aware of the problem that the Irish face, poverty. The readers are forced to make a moral decision on the matter. Swift highlights that a changes need to be made in order for the problems to be taken care of. I think it is agreed by all parties that this prodigious number of children in the arms, or on the backs, or at the heels of their mothers, and frequently of their fathers, is in the present deplorable state of the kingdom a very great additional grievance; and, therefore, whoever could find out a fair, cheap, and easy method of making these children sound, useful members of the commonwealth, would deserve so well of the public as to have his statue set up for a preserver of the nation(Swift). This demonstrates a central theme in any satire. The way that Swift connects the reader to the problem puts the reader in a state of unease. It bothers the reader for example when they get to the long list of advantages that come from Swifts proposal. The list continues on long after the reader has accepted the fact that it should never have began. For first, as I have already observed, it would lessen the number of papists Secondly, The poorer tenants will have something valuable of their ownThirdlythe nations stock will be thereby increased fifty thousand pounds per annumFourthlyconstant breederswill be rid of the charge of maintaining them after the first yearFifthly, This food would bring great custom to tavernsSixthly, this would be a great inducement to marriage (Swift). The state of unease that Swift puts the reader into is the result of pure guilt. The reader begins to understand that they are somewhat accountable for the problems that the Irish face. The reader understands t hat he has quietly sat back and let the English establish laws that oppress the Irish. Swift says it is inhumane to let fellow humans be treated in the manner that the English treated the Irish. .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 , .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 .postImageUrl , .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 , .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5:hover , .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5:visited , .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5:active { border:0!important; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5:active , .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5 .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2ef18bf28484749af4e26a5b189aa2c5:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Craft EssayJonathan Swift has a knack for making others feel uncomfortable. In much of his work he was able to make the readers uneasy. Using his wittiness and creativeness, Swift makes his readers face their moral inadequacies (Norton). He actually compels us to enjoy the process of being brought to such awareness (Norton). The literary gifts that Swift has make him an effective satirical writer. He has a way of making the most extreme statements appear disguised in the abstraction of metaphor. Using his ability he is able to indict the English for economically oppressing the Irish, the Irish for allowing the English to oppress them, and the readers for letting members of their race be taken advantage of in A Modest Proposal. The Comparison Between Learned in Books and Knowledge Gained from Experience Essay Example

The Comparison Between Learned in Books and Knowledge Gained from Experience Essay The comparison between learned in books and knowledge gained from experience The education is the most important thing in our life, without it we can’t solve our problem and the logic thinking. By the way any education in my opinion will be benefit whatever it is depend on the book or our skill, the doctor have to study in the book and be good doctor by the way the barber is not depend in the book he has to looking to the designer off his boss and after time he can to make it without his boss. So We can say that there are some people prefer to learn a profession or experience is through actual practice and the process for this profession, in their minds they think this is better and faster to acquire the skill and experience, others prefer learning in schools and universities and read many books and gain experience of and then apply what they have learned in these schools and universities, So we must now not everything that is learning is contained in book, and also we don’t have completely book can fit our job we have to search in the partial place, but ever they are have big similarity and big different both way have the same target to learn. We will write a custom essay sample on The Comparison Between Learned in Books and Knowledge Gained from Experience specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on The Comparison Between Learned in Books and Knowledge Gained from Experience specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on The Comparison Between Learned in Books and Knowledge Gained from Experience specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer In similarity, first off all is education and depend in our job, and also want to study , We can find good job after we finish it We can able to make logical thinking, Second it take long time in our life to get to it not anything we can make is easily we have to spend time and work to get good job for example as interior designer, which I learn from the book is very good thing and benefit and this in partial life I executing the work in my project as I learn in our book, because I don’t fill in problem. So Learning from books is important, we apply what we have learned literally in the real world and then develop that we have learned to reach for better results. On the other hand, there is very much different we can’t count it the experience education don’t have limit time and don’t requires to go to same place like university as will the education cases or book need to the studied to be in the time in his class and want to get his book and prepare the lesson, and also have another different the experience education not have to make exam and study days before the exam , on other hand the, book and university study as we had in our university we have to study days and days before the exam. As I say in the topic all education is ways to go to the same target in the general case, the book is very important thing in the human and by the book we can read very much thing for the old culture but this thing not enough to learn, so the person have to development this think to maybe can find way better for the idea in the book. Basic Model of the Atom - Atomic Theory

Basic Model of the Atom - Atomic Theory All matter consists of particles called atoms. Atoms bond to each other to form elements, which contain only one kind of atom. Atoms of different elements form compounds, molecules, and objects. Key Takeaways: Model of the Atom An atom is a building block of matter that cannot be broken apart using any chemical means. Nuclear reactions can alter atoms. The three parts of the atom are protons (positively charged), neutrons (neutral charge), and electrons (negatively charged).Protons and neutrons form the atomic nucleus. Electrons are attracted to the protons in the nucleus, but are moving so quickly they fall toward it (orbit) rather than stick to protons. The identity of an atom is determined by its number of protons. This is also called its atomic number. Parts of an Atom Atoms consist of three parts: Protons: Protons are the basis of atoms. While an atom can gain or lose neutrons and electrons, its identity is tied to the number of protons. The symbol for proton number is the capital letter Z.Neutrons: The number of neutrons in an atom is indicated by the letter N. The atomic mass of an atom is the sum of its protons and neutrons or Z N. The strong nuclear force binds protons and neutrons together to form the nucleus of an atom.Electrons: Electrons are much smaller than protons or neutrons and orbit around them. What You Need to Know About Atoms This is a list of the basic characteristics of atoms: Atoms cannot be divided using chemicals. They do consist of parts, which include protons, neutrons, and electrons, but an atom is a basic chemical building block of matter. Nuclear reactions, such as radioactive decay and fission, can break apart atoms. Each electron has a negative electrical charge. Each proton has a positive electrical charge. The charge of a proton and an electron are equal in magnitude, yet opposite in sign. Electrons and protons are electrically attracted to each other.  Like charges (protons and protons, electrons and electrons) repel each other. Each neutron is electrically neutral. In other words, neutrons do not have a charge and are not electrically attracted to either electrons or protons.Protons and neutrons are about the same size as each other and are much larger than electrons. The mass of a proton is essentially the same as that of a neutron. The mass of a proton is 1840 times greater than the mass of an electron. The nucleus of an atom contains protons and neutrons. The nucleus carries a positive electrical charge. Electrons move around outside the nucleus. Electrons are organized into shells, which is a region where an electron is most likely found. Simple models show electrons orbiting the nuclear in a near-circular orbit, like planets orbiting a star, but real behavior is much more complex. Some electron shells resemble spheres, but others look more like dumb bells or other shapes. Technically, an electron can be found anywhere within the atom, but spends most of its time in the region described by an orbital. Electrons can also move between orbitals.Atoms are very small. The average size of an atom is about 100 picometers or one ten-billionth of a meter.Almost all of the mass of an atom is in its nucleus; almost all of the volume of an atom is occupied by electrons. The number of protons (also known as its atomic number) determines the element. Varying the number of neutrons results in isotopes. Varying the number of electrons results in ions. Isotopes and ions of an atom with a constant num ber of protons are all variations of a single element. The particles within an atom are bound together by powerful forces. In general, electrons are easier to add or remove from an atom than a proton or neutron. Chemical reactions largely involve atoms or groups of atoms and the interactions between their electrons. Does the atomic theory make sense to you? If so, heres a quiz you can take to test your understanding of the concepts. Sources Dalton, John (1803). The strong earthquakes happened in Sichuan province, how it influence Essay

The strong earthquakes happened in Sichuan province, how it influence local people - Essay Example It is of great concern that the Sichuan locals and the surrounding inhabitants from the towns like Yunnan and Huizhou were affected in a great extent by the destructive Wenchuan earthquake. It is an understatement to state that the earthquake only disrupted their proper livelihoods. It did more than damage and left the consequences exposed to the surviving population who are bearing the brunt. The Sichuan local authorities will be contacted for their authorization guidance and assistance of the research because of their strong connection and language advantage with the locals. The research will involve interviewing all classes from the upper class and lower class to give their experience from the earthquake and how it has impacted their lives whether positively or negatively. MSA 522 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

MSA 522 - Essay Example According to Act Utilitarian of Jeremy Bentham, an action that results in the happiness of one and all is a good act. He said â€Å"when choosing a course of action, one should always pick the one that will maximize happiness and minimize unhappiness for the greatest number of people† (Bentham from Rosenstand p.176). The actions, which result in maximum happiness for maximum number of people, are invariable good and therefore morally and ethically right. In the contemporary times, it becomes highly difficult because of the diverse ideologies and differing value system to satisfy large populace. Indeed, it is one of the crucial compulsions of the globalization that people should strive towards common goals of universal values. Misusing public funds by the vested interests (which may be managers in the public services) not only violate various stakeholders’ trust but they also deprive the general public from the benefits of the various welfare schemes which depend on the efficient use of the funds. Hence, using the said philosophy, the managers would ensure efficient delivery of the goals and objectives of departments and

U.S. Military Women in Vietnam Essay Example for Free

U.S. Military Women in Vietnam Essay United States military women played important roles during the war, in Vietnam. Women served on voluntary terms and proved to aid amid the destruction and death in Vietnam. When Diane Carlson Evans, a former army nurse in Vietnam, first saw the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, she felt something was missing. Her efforts to highlight the service of women in Vietnam were rewarded on November 11, 1993, when the Vietnam Womens Memorial was dedicated. We learn from (Anderson, p. 99) that, â€Å"All women who served in Vietnam were volunteers, whether civilian or military. At one time there was discussion about drafting women nurses, but this was never implemented. Some women military asked to go to Vietnam, and some were sent against their wishes and even against recruiters promises, but all were volunteers because they voluntarily signed up for the military. † The discussion came up about drafting women, during Vietnam but it was decided that women would not be ordered to serve during this war. There was a huge need for nurses and other jobs, in Vietnam, but the draft was never made mandatory. We learn from Joan Arrington Craigwell and Ellen Hoffman Young, (Craigwell, Young, p. 77) that â€Å"Significant numbers of women served admirably in all branches of service as professional nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, air traffic controllers, aerial reconnaissance photographers, intelligence and language specialists, legal officers, and in security and administrative positions. Civilian women also served in Vietnam in the Red Cross, USO, the Central Intelligence Agency and the U. S. Agency for International Development, as well as in other government agencies. Other women worked there as journalists, flight attendants, and in various church and humanitarian organizations. † We also learn that, â€Å"Where are these women today? Could they possibly be your wife, your nurse, co-worker, your supervisor, your physician or your next door neighbor? Could you find them if you looked? These women have camouflaged themselves, an easy task in our society. All they have to do is keep quiet. Women served alongside men in that sink-pit of war. For the country to heal, these women need to reveal the full depth of their experiences, first to themselves and then to the rest of us. Its time for womens experiences and contributions to be recognized and acknowledged as an important part of the history of the Vietnam conflict. †Women have not necessarily been associated with serving in the United States, during Vietnam. When we think about Vietnam, we most likely connect the war with an all male group. Many women served in Vietnam and made huge contributions to this war effort. We learn from the Tod Advisor’s Notebook that, (Women in Vietnam, p. 1) â€Å"In 2002, we think nothing of seeing women soldiers going into combat, or women police officers on our streets. This is a fairly recent development and, even today, these are far from accepted roles for women outside the United States (and Canada). During the time of TOD, 1967-69, womens role in society was very limited. In the military, women were mostly restricted to clerical or medical duties. All women who served in the Armed Forces were either volunteers or obligatories (again, my term), the latter being mostly nurses who had received public funding for their training and were obliged to serve two years in the military in exchange. During the period of the Vietnam War, women did not attend West Point or participate in ROTC programs. Far fewer women served in the military (either in total or as a percentage) than had served in WW II.

Factors That Influence Teen Violence :: essays research papers

In today's society, the teenage population has experienced an increase in violence. Teens face many situations that cause these problems. Several factors are mass media, peer pressure, and society's view on the "perfect" person. Television, radio, and news papers are all ways of transferring messages to people. One might see a violent movie and decide to re-enact the scenes thus causing harm to one's self or to others. Hidden meanings of racism and hate are put into music. Teens hear the words of their supposed role models and think it is OK to follow in their foot steps. When reading of such violent acts as the Oklahoma City bombing or the murders of Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ron Goldman, it is taken to most that anyone can get away with crime. Peer pressure is another big factor. Teenagers rely a great deal upon their peers for guidance and support. Sometimes this is the wrong path to take. Friendship is a word that is thrown around a little too loosely now days. Teens le t their "friends" talk them into doing things that they would not normally do. Drugs and theft are brought into these relationships also. Today's youth must learn to be leaders, not followers.Society can often be a harsh world to live in for a teen. To be considered "in" you must fit the role of the "perfect person." As young adults, teens are trying to find themselves. They look toward celebrities and leaders for a goal. They try to buy the right clothes, wear the nicest shoes, and be present at all the social events. To fit in, some are pushed to the edge. If you are caught in a dark alley at the wrong time, you might be killed just for your name brand shoes.

Comparing the Poem “Richard Corey” with Money and Happiness

Do money and happiness go together? In the poem â€Å"Richard Corey ,â€Å" the author wants the reader to think or accept the generalization that money does not bring you happiness. There are different people in the public eye who would make you think, no, money does not make you happy. Then there are people in the public eyes that you would think, yes, money can make a person happy. But, does money really make you happy? Well, personally I have never been rich. I was poor and now I have enough money to save and pay bills so that I am not living pay check to pay check. There are famous people who are wealthy. They have drug problems, alcohol issues, and behavioral issues with the law. They are not happy. When you have a drug or an alcohol problem then you are running from deep-rooted issues. Look at Charlie Sheen, Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley, Kat Williams and many others. These people have either died from overdoses or have been in trouble with the law from either alcohol or drug related problems. I don’t think all the money in the world would have made or make them happy. If anything, money was a short term solution to their problems. Would they act the same if they were poor? There are people like Oprah Winfry, Beyonce Knowles, Jay-z, Michele Obama, and many more that you would think that money made these people happy. They all go on trips, have nice houses, and they are not in the spotlight of the media for any drug, alcohol, or negative publicity. They are always smiling and they are family and friend oriented. So is it the money that makes them happy? I feel we will never know. I am far from having a lot of money. My husband and I live comfortably with the money we make. We work together to bring in the money to support our kids. My husband works really hard at his job. Are we happy? Yes, we are very happy. It’s not because of the money though. We make each other happy. We are surrounded by our family and friends. It’s the love we have for our kids, family, and each other that makes us happy. It was not always like that for me though. With my ex-husband, we were living pay check to pay check. We always were broke and needed help from family all the time. My ex-husband did not want to work and put all the stress to take care of everything on me. Was I happy? No, hence the reason he is my ex-husband. It was not because of the money though. It was because my ex-husband was like black smoke that smothered me and stressed me out so much. In conclusion, I don’t think money can make a person happy for the long haul. I feel that kind of happiness is for that moment. Materialistic things are only there for that moment. All I know is money is not the reason for my happiness. We all have our own reasons for our own happiness. What is yours?

The Influence of Buddhism in Chinese Martial Arts Essay

Gutowski 1 BrandonGutowski Carrie Morris Narration of Asia 30 January 2012 The Influence of Buddhism In Chinese Martial Arts Since first introduced During the Han Dynasty, Buddhism has played a major role in Chinese art and culture. This is especially true in the traditions that surround the art of Shaolin Kung-Fu, and their strong belief in Chan (Zen) Buddhism. Kung-Fu was Influenced by the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama and focuses heavily on the belief that enlightenment is attained through meditation. In this essay, Buddhisms influence on Shaolin Kung-Fu will be discussed, from how it started to how it thrives today in modern china. Michael Kampan O Reilly states in Art Beyond the West that Zen Buddhism teaches one can find†¦show more content†¦The tong qi-gong became the foundation on which Shaolin kung-fu was built. Eventually the kung fu was used as a form of fighting and the temple became known for its warrior monks. In 574AD Emperor Wudi banned Buddhism, the Shaolin was destroyed (Sara Naumann). During the Northern Zhou Dynasty Buddhism w as revived and The Shaolin rebuilt. It says in Art Beyond The West by Michael Kampan O Reilly that during the fourth and fifth centuries Buddhism became wide spread for the first time in China (126). The Tang Dynasty is when the Shaolin flourished. Thirteen warrior monks rescued the Emperors son Li Shimin from an army that was trying to take over the Tang.
